The Speed of Sound app is perfect for experimentally determining the speed of sound, whether you're in the classroom or watching a baseball game. Just record the scene with your device's camera, import the video into the app, and use the convenient playback feature and slider to advance frame by frame through the scene until you mark the collision. The app will determine the time difference between when the collision displays in the video and when it is heard in the audio. Using both the time difference and the distance you are from the collision, you can experimentally determine the speed of sound.
