HOSPICE EL PASO-YOUR COMMUNITY HOSPICE

Hospice El Paso, a non-profit organization, is the oldest Hospice in our community. The mission of Hospice El Paso is simple: to provide comfort, care, hope, and choice to patients at the end of life’s journey while guiding their loved ones through the grieving process regardless of their ability to pay.

Since its inception, Hospice El Paso has worked with over 12,000 El Pasoans and their families. Hospice El Paso sets the standard for Hospice care. Each person who works at Hospice, whether it is at the bedside, or running the day to day operation is committed to the mission of the organization. The commitment runs deep. There are no investors to cover the shortfall, or other branches to supplement the bottom line. Hospice El Paso relies on our community to help accomplish the mission. Every year, people, just like you, contribute. Every dollar given is put to good use. Food is purchased when families need help, patient’s utility bills are paid when money runs short. Counseling is provided to families who need help coping. Spiritual help is made available for the dying as well as those who are left behind.

Hospice El Paso, YOUR Community Hospice, is working to create linkages in our community to provide more services to include outreach, satellite bereavement classes, music therapy, and pet therapy. In order to accomplish the goals of providing more services, we need your help. Will you consider giving $20.00 a month to the Hospice El Paso? Updates will be posted on Facebook and on our web-site. You will have the opportunity to hear from people who have benefited from your generosity. Updates will also be given regarding the other community organizations that Hospice El Paso will be working with to make your contribution go further. Other areas of opportunity include contributing to the Harry I. Zimmer Jr. Family Legacy Fund, The Center for Compassionate Care Special Fund, and to the Hospice El Paso General Fund.

The Harry I. Zimmer Jr. Family Legacy Fund, established in September of 2013, provides necessities and comfort for patients at the end-of- life who are faced with emergency situations and are without the financial means to help themselves.

This fund has already helped many patients. The most profound story is about a 46 year old man with cancer that was locked in a shed behind a family member’s home. He was taken to the hospital and stabilized and they wanted him discharged immediately. They called Hospice El Paso, but because he was homeless we had nowhere to provide the care. To make a very long story short, we took him to a local homeless shelter and used money generously donated to the Harry I. Zimmer Family Legacy Fund to provide a trained caregiver to sit with him throughout the evening and next day until a more permanent and suitable place could be found.

Maggie’s generosity and thoughtfulness has made this and so many other “happy endings” possible.

The Center for Compassionate Care Special Fund: The Center for Compassionate Care, located at 1575 Belvidere, is designed for Hospice patients who need medical attention that cannot be given at home. The Center for Compassionate Care also houses Hospice patients admitted from local hospitals who are in their final stages of life. The Center for Compassionate Care offers a home like setting that is welcoming to family. While the Center is equipped to care for the patient’s needs, it is not equipped to handle the needs of the family. One very real need is to provide food for families to have on hand. Items to include fruit, handy snacks, and frozen items could help offset the need for family members to leave their loved one’s side. Other items that the Center needs include twin bed sheets, blankets, and towels.
